two biggies hit the marquee today. sivaji and jhoom baraabar jhoom. one from mumbai and the other from down south. one is a tamil film and the other hindi. breaking and entering is also hitting bombay today. got bad reviews though. don’t know why anthony minghella has generally disappointed, other than the talented mr. ripley and of course truly, madly, deeply. constant gardener, the english patient were quite a drag. the scale is impressive, the acting is good and so are the other departments, but why is that nagging feeling…?

of course one can criticise it theoretically and philosophically, but one can use the cinema lovers instinct too and therein something of mr. ripley’s cold ruthlessness is wanted, not the cool, detached antiseptic pov of an educated, satiated aesthete. or the dionysian charm and excess of jude law from the same film.

as somebody has said…it doesn’t matter where your head falls as long as your heart is in its right place.
