Hiroshima Anniversary - 8.15am
!– @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } –>Today is August 6th. It doesn’t ring a bell I am sure. Only while browsing through the net that one came across the below mentioned information.
“8.15am (9.15am AEST), the exact moment in 1945 when a single US bomb instantly killed more than 140,000 people and fatally injured tens of thousands of others with radiation or horrific burns”
62 years ago on this very day the bomb was dropped and the world was changed forever. We realized the fearful power of the bomb, we loved the damage it could do, we swooned over having control of that power, we celebrated when we possessed the trigger.
The world now is blasé about nuclear weapons. Elaborate theories of nationalism, self-defense and deterrence have been propounded by individuals, organizations and nation-states to buttress their stake to the bomb.
It can only be a fool who will believe that the world will be free of nuclear weapons. Some maniac somewhere will have that one bomb that will perpetuate the fear…of utter and complete destruction. Meantime conscientious civil society and peace activists will try to raise awareness, condemn the MI complex…more power to them. The less concerned will go on living with the terrible truths, compromises and ecstasies of the modern civilization…
Till the day comes when it all goes…up in smoke…just like that
